In Iran, when a woman gets married she kept her family name, the man keeps his family name, when they have a child the name that is used comes from the father.

When we came in Canada (Vancouver) one of our issues was two different family names. One day me and my ex went to the bank to open a bank account. The retail ask us:”if you married, why you have two different family names?”.We didn’t have any clue what he was talking about. When he explained about after marriage in Canada that most time the woman change their name, we were shocked. We explain about Iranian culture after marrying and the woman keeps her family name, he was shocked. It was a very interesting day for us to have knowledge about marriage and other hand the person try to help us to open a bank account became a good friend. *
